Wednesday Netball Match Reports Round 8

easy breezy v the odd bunch

Fill in players seems to be the theme of tonight’s games and this as no exception with both Easy Breezy and The Odd Bunch having to bring in recruits to fill their teams. The first quarter was fairly even with both teams going goal for goal. The second quarter Easy Breezy started to feel like a more cohesive team and were able to build a 5 goal lead by half time. The Odd Bunch played with great enthusiasm and although Easy Breezy were outscoring them, they continued to push hard in the game score well. Janelle and Ruth both played a beautiful game and were named players of the Match for their efforts. Easy Breezy won the game, 35 to 20.

centrefold v jo mama

It’s a first time for these two teams playing each other and should be a good match up down the court. Centrefold got out to a great start with the assistance of fill in players, but Jo Mama were hot on their heels. Half time had centrefold with an 8 goal lead over Jo Mama, they kept their defensive efforts tight in the second half also, limiting the number of goals Jo Mama were able to score throughout the game. Jo Mama’s shooting accuracy increased as the game went on, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the strength of Centrefold, Pheobe had a stellar game in defence for Centrefold and was named Player of the Match, along with Patrick from Jo Mama for their efforts. Centrefold won the game, 31 to 14.

droppin ballz v naomi's team

These two rivals have always had great matches and tonight’s was no exception. Droppin Balls with the assistance of some fill ins were able to get out to an early 5 goal lead in the first quarter, Naomi’s Team taking a bit of time to warm up in this game. However, the second quarter was Naomi’s Teams, they moved well, shot well and reduced the gap down to just 3 goals at the half time break. Both teams kept the pressure on in the third quarter, the scores increasing but the gap remaining unchanged. Droppin Balls did all they could to resist the increase in pressure from Naomi’s Team in the final quarter, but they were determined, outscoring Droppin Balls and taking the lead with only moments left in the game. Droppin Balls quickly got possession of the ball and as the clock ticked down, scored the goal to draw the game. Sal for Droppin Balls and Cam for Naomi’s Team were the Players of the Match in tonight’s game.

mediocre v sunflowers

These two teams are both strong finals contenders and tonight should be a good match up. Unfortunately, injury happened to Sunflowers goaler early in the first quarter and it gave Mediocre the perfect start to the game, building an early lead. Sunflowers rallied and were able to bring it to Mediocre in the second quarter, going goal for goal and keeping the score difference the same. Both teams stepped it up in the third quarter and goals started to flow. Holly had a great game and was named Player of the Match for their efforts in securing Mediocre the win, 24 to 19.

gmd v transformers

Both these teams have had some very close games of late and will be hoping for an easier game. The first quarter saw GMD working hard, down a few players to begin with, but it seems to have worked in their favour as they continued the energy into the second quarter with full strength on court, getting out to a 9 goal lead at the break. Transformers kept fighting hard and took some great intercepts but the pressure being applied by GMD was just too strong as they increased their lead out to 11 goals heading into the final quarter. It was smiles on all faces for the final quarter which is always great to see, both teams put in a stellar effort, well done to GMD for securing their second win of the season, 24 to 11. Lachlan for GMD and Erin for Transformers were named Players of the Match for their respective teams.

wildcats v the rusty's

Both teams are on the back of strong wins last week and will be eager to get another tonight. It was a fairly even start to the match, before Wildcats showed their strength and got out to a 7 goal lead at half time. The Rusty’s goalers were trying everything they could against the strength shown by the Wildcats defenders, keeping them to just 1 goal for the third quarter. The final quarter was better by The Rusty’s with some exceptional intercepts they were moving the ball around well and converting goals. Wildcats however, kept the pressure on and won the game, 24 to 10. Annika was awarded Player of the Match for Wildcats.

don't call hr! v slayers

Both of these teams are due a win on the board, the first quarter was goal for goal with both teams playing well. Don’t Call HR! made a push for it in the second quarter building a small 4 goal lead at the half time break. Slayers regrouped in the break and came out win great energy in the third quarter, again going goal for goal and Don’t Call HR just keeping their 4 goal lead for the last quarter. Slayers were putting together some great plays down the court, really moving well as a team and playing with a great spirit. Unfortunately, Don’t Call HR! with the help of a fill in were just too strong for them tonight, winning the game, 16 to 11.

harley's angels v bittabanter

Set to be a great game, both teams have had to bring in some recruits to fill their teams and it was Harley’s Angels that started to gel as a team quicker. Working well in the first quarter to move the ball around and start scoring. Bittabanter were missing their usual fluid style and found themselves chasing Harley’s Angels around the court. A great intercept by Rylie in WD for Bittabanter saw a change for the team as they picked up their pace and worked on building a lead, getting out to 3 goals at half time. The third quarter Bittabanter continued their momentum and was able to extend their lead out to 7 for the final quarter. An injury flaring up for Kane in goals for Harley’s Angels saw a change up in their style of play and you’d be forgiven for thinking that would hinder Harley’s Angels chances in this game, but the rest of the team rallied and they fought back goal by goal, edging closer to the win, however time was not on their side and Bittabanter narrowly scrapped through with a 21 to 23 win. Daniel had a great game in defence for Harley’s Angels, continuously putting the goalers off their shot and earned himself Player of the Match.
