Thursday Match Reports Round 10

cheeseballers v mixed bag

Both teams came into tonight from hard games last week so would be wanting to get a win on the board. Mixed Bag got out to an early start in the first quarter with some strong shooting. Cheeseballers down by 6 heading into the second quarter were keen to step it up and quickly scored another 2 goals, however the defensive power of Mixed Bag was proving a challenge each time they got the ball into the goal circle. A penalty goal after the siren at half time brought the scores to 8 to 16 in favour of Mixed Bag. The half time break seemed to have given Mixed Bag a fresh start and they came out flying, quickly extending the lead to 15 in the third quarter. Cheeseballers swapped players around for the last quarter to try and recoup some goals, it didn’t quite go their way with Mixed Bag taking the game 11 v 36. Tess was instrumental with her performance and the umpires awarded her Player of the match.

nets top model v shots fired

These finals contenders battling it out was set to be the match of the night, 3rd v 4th on the ladder, who would take it out. Nets Top Model coming into the game from a hard-fought 2 point loss last week against the top of the ladder, and Shots Fired from a high scoring win against Mixed Bag. The first quarter was goal for goal, with a turn over in the dying seconds allowing Shots Fired to start the second quarter 1 goal up. Shots fired flew out in the second quarter, with consistent shooting they continued to capitalise on turnovers and extended their lead into half time to 12. Nets Top Models defence stepped it up in the third quarter and were able to slow the goals coming from Shots Fired. But true to their name Shots Fired continued the strong shooting in the last quarter, taking the game out by a 19 point margin, 15 to 34. Em starred for Nets Top Model and was awarded player of the match by the umpires.

material gorls v goal diggers

It’s a top of the ladder clash this week with both teams coming in with a decent winning streak, however Material Gorls off a very narrow win last week. With a player running late Material Gorls had to get a sub from the sidelines. Goal Diggers were able to take advantage of the slight change in the usually very fluid Material Gorls and enter the second quarter with a 1 goal advantage. The late player arrived and it was business as usual for the ladder leaders in the second quarter, swapping leaders a few times through the quarter but ultimately heading into half time with a 2 goal lead. Material Gorls continued to capitalise with turnovers and intercepts and extend the lead at three quarter time to 4. Strong shooting by the Goal Diggers GA saw the scoreline narrow to 5 with 3 minutes to go. Unfortunately, time was not on their side and Material Gorls sealed it with a goal in the dying seconds, 29 v 23. Mary was a stand out shooter for Material Gorls and was awarded Player of the Match alongside Simone Pu from Goal Diggers for her continued performance week in week out.
