Ballistic Beavers v Reds
Both teams have had a challenging run up to this weeks game, who will the break over the festive period favour? Ballistic Beavers got out to a strong start in the first quarter, moving the ball down the court with ease, getting out to a 3 goal lead heading into the second quarter. Reds came back with a vengeance in the second quarter, ending the first half in front. Both teams had stellar third quarters, the final quarter saw Ballistic Beavers push right to the end and win the game, 28 to 22 to secure their third win of the season. Mitch for Ballistic Beavers and Matthew for Reds were selected as Players of the Match for their efforts in the game, both for the first time this season.
Pineapple on Pizza v Sunflowers
Pineapple on Pizza were on a 2 week winning streak prior to the break, however Sunflowers have had a run of challenging games and will be hoping to turn it around in the first game back of the year. Both teams warmed up quickly in the game and were able to go goal for goal for the first quarter. The second saw Pineapple on Pizza showcase how they were able to win the previous 2 games, great teamwork and excellent defensive effort, they quickly got out to a 5 goal lead at the end of the first half. Sunflowers regrouped at the half time break and came out in the third quarter like a whole new team, they outshot Pineapple on Pizza and were able to get in front with one quarter to go. Although Pineapple on Pizza tried to take back the lead, Sunflowers held on strong to secure their third win of the season, 28 to 30. Alex had another great game for Sunflowers and was awarded Player of the Match for the third game this season.
Red Dolphins v Monny Money Squared
Both teams have had great seasons so far and would expect this to be a great showdown. Unfortunately, Red Dolphins had a number of team members still on holidays and came into the game with a number of fill in players, will this cost them the chance to secure their sixth game of the season? Monny Money Squared had a strong first quarter and got out to a 9 goal lead heading into the second quarter. Red Dolphins found a better groove in the second quarter and was able to keep up with their opponents to limit Monny Money from running away with the game. The third quarter Monny Money kept pushing in the third quarter, but Red Dolphins continued to keep up with them and score well. The final quarter showed the endurance of Monny Money as they fought hard until the final siren, winning the game, 21 to 35. Georgia was the standout on court for Monny Money and was named Player of the Match for the second time this season.
Cops & Lobbers v Hannah and the Bananas
Both teams have had 3 wins to their name for the season so far and with finals approaching will be hopeful to notch up a few more. Cops & Lobbers had a great start and were able to get out to a 5 goal lead heading into the second quarter. Hannah and the Bananas were having a very consistent game, moving well as a team, but struggling with the speed of Cops & Lobbers. The goalers for Cops & Lobbers were having a ripper game and scoring some great shots, they extended their lead each quarter before ultimately winning their fourth game, 29 to 10. Kane and Thien were named Players of the Match for Cops & Lobbers.
Vicious & Delicious v The Bridesmaids
The Bridesmaids are up for a challenging game against the inform Vicious & Delicious this week. The first quarter was fairly even with both teams moving well after the break. The defensive end for The Bridesmaids stepped it up in the second quarter and were able to slow the progress of Vicious & Delicious, reading the play well and getting intercepts and rebounds. It’s no surprise that Dean and Amanda for The Bridesmaids were named Players of the Match. The second half saw Vicious & Delicious continue to push hard in the game, good movement from defence into the midcourt after any turnovers, players reading each other as if they were family. Matt & Liam stood out for Vicious & Delicious and were named Players of the Match for their efforts also. Vicious & Delicious ultimately won the game, 28 to 10.
Nets Top Model v Netscape Navigators
Both teams are on a winning streak heading into this game, who will it continue for? It was a good start for both teams in the first quarter, both teams moving the ball well and scoring accurately. Nets Top Model were able to get out to a 6 goal lead at the end of the first quarter, quarter two was a carbon copy of the first quarter. Netscape Navigators started to slow their game in the third quarter, and it allowed Nets Top Model to run away with the game, winning 36 to 16. Bridget was named Player of the Match.
